Golf Wang Hats
Golf Wang has a colorful collection of fluorescent and pastel-colored designed hats. Tyler, The Designer puts a high emphasis on his artistic position because so much of himself is invested in his brand. Tyler has always believed in wearing what you want and doing what you want, and his designs are more about pushing his own style to its limits than pandering to current trends. Tyler described his process, saying, “I just make whatever clothes I want to wear for the next five months and then run that.” I don’t put a lot of thought into it; it’s more of a feeling.” He’s putting all that is quintessentially himself into Golf Wang Hat, his color palettes, his energy, and his controversies.
One concept from Golf Wang’s Fall/Winter 2013 lookbook caused conflict within Odd Future. Syd and Matt Martians of the Internet took to Twitter to denounce T-shirts and hats with pictures of people in blackface. They emphasized that all of those wearing them would be white and that making a Golf Wang T-Shirt like that with no historical background — regardless of who made it — was reckless.
